Black Orange Dorsal Lithobates is a German line-bred form of Otopharynx lithobates selected for the dramatic dark body and orange dorsal contrast that make the group so popular in show tanks. It is a manageable Lake Malawi hap for peacock and hap displays.

Origin and Habitat

  • Native Region: German line-bred strain from Lake Malawi Otopharynx lithobates stock.
  • Natural Habitat: Wild Otopharynx lithobates are associated with rocky and intermediate Lake Malawi habitat; provide rock cover and open water in aquariums.

Physical Characteristics

  • Size: 6-7 inches.
  • Coloration: Mature males can show a dark body with a bright orange dorsal fin; females and juveniles are more muted.

Behavior and Temperament
