Venustus German Line Bred is a German line-bred form of the Giraffe Cichlid, a large and impressive Lake Malawi hap. It needs space, stable hard water, and tank mates that can handle its size and assertive adult presence.

Origin and Habitat

• Native Region: German line-bred strain from Lake Malawi stock.
• Natural Habitat: Intermediate zone.

Physical Characteristics

• Size: 10-12 inches.
• Coloration: Mature males develop stronger adult color and pattern; females and juveniles retain a more subdued giraffe-like pattern.
• Body Shape: Large, deep-bodied predator-hap profile.

Behavior and Temperament

• Temperament: Mildly aggressive to assertive as it matures.
• Social Behavior: Best kept with larger Lake Malawi haps and other robust tank mates in a spacious aquarium.

Aquarium Care

• Tank Size: A 125 gallon aquarium or larger is recommended for adults.
• Water Parameters: 74-84°F, pH 7.4-8.4, hard water.
• Tank Setup: Provide open swimming space, sturdy rockwork for sight breaks, and strong filtration.

Diet and Feeding

• Primary Staple: Feed a quality daily diet such as Ron’s Peacock & Hap Adult Food.

Breeding

• Breeding Notes: Males display to females and may defend breeding space. Females hold eggs and fry in the mouth, and fry should be protected after release.
