Hemitaeniochromis sp. Spilopterus Yellow is a very rare Lake Malawi hap associated with the spilopterus group. It is a larger, active fish for spacious hap aquariums where males have room to mature and display.

Origin and Habitat

• Native Region: Lake Malawi, lake-wide distribution.
• Natural Habitat: Sandy sections of shallow intermediate habitat.

Physical Characteristics

• Size: 8-10 inches.
• Coloration: Dimorphic; males develop the strongest yellow-toned display, while females and juveniles are more subdued.
• Body Shape: Large, streamlined hap body built for open swimming over sand and intermediate habitat.

Behavior and Temperament

• Temperament: Mildly aggressive.
• Social Behavior: Best with similar-size Lake Malawi haps and robust peacocks.

Aquarium Care
